Officials from Cambodia's Ministry of Public Works and Transport stated that, as of the end of 2025, the nation had registered electric vehicles across multiple categories, including electric cars, motorcycles and tricycles.
Cambodia's target is to exceed 770,000 electric vehicles by 2030, alongside a firm commitment to increasing the share of electric cars to 35-40% and electric motorcycles to 70% by 2050.
This growth has delivered significant environmental and economic benefits, while also strengthening energy security. These benefits include reductions in carbon dioxide emissions and air pollution, lower operating costs compared with petrol-powered vehicles, reduced dependence on fuel imports, and the adoption of new technologies.
The momentum in the adoption of electric vehicles in Cambodia followed the introduction of special incentives by the Royal Government of Cambodia for importers of electric cars and motorcycles, including a 50% reduction in import duties. In addition, the Electricity Authority of Cambodia has encouraged investors to establish electric vehicle charging stations, with high-speed charging stations currently in operation nationwide.
In November 2025, the Council for the Development of Cambodia approved the construction of an electric vehicle assembly plant in Sihanoukville, contributing to improved affordability of electric vehicles for Cambodian consumers.
Cambodia's policy to expand the use of electric vehicles is expected to contribute to a reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 50% by 2050 compared with current levels, and to lower the number of premature deaths worldwide from approximately 5.4 million in 2020 to about 2.8 million by 2050.
