The Tayron, which is larger and includes an additional row of seats, is priced Rs. 126,000 higher than the five-seat Tiguan. The price difference between the Tayron and the three-row version of its badge-engineered sibling, the Skoda Kodiaq, stands at Rs. 323,000. The Kodiaq is also offered in a five-seat configuration.
Powertrain
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 207 PS and 320 Nm. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) that distributes power to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The same powertrain is available in the five-seat Tiguan R-Line and the Skoda Kodiaq.
The Tayron R-Line accelerates from 0-100 kph in a claimed 7.3 seconds and has a top speed of 224 kph.
Exterior design
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line shares overall proportions with the five-seat Tiguan. Design differences include revised Matrix LED headlamps and a central element incorporating an LED light bar. The LED tail-light elements have been updated, and illuminated Volkswagen logos are fitted at the front and rear. The 19-inch alloy wheels, gloss-black wheel-arch cladding and R-Line badges are common to both models.
Both vehicles are based on the MQB EVO platform. The three-row Tayron R-Line has a wheelbase that is 109 mm longer. Its dimensions are as follows:
Length: 4,792 mm
Width: 1,866 mm
Height: 1,665 mm
Wheelbase: 2,789 mm
Boot space: 345 litres
Interior design and features
The interior layout of the Tayron R-Line is similar to that of the Tiguan R-Line, with the addition of a silver trim strip across the dashboard. Features include a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a three-spoke steering wheel. The seats are finished in leatherette upholstery, and adjustable headrests are provided for all occupants.
Other equipment includes three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory, massage and ventilation functions, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a powered tailgate and 30-colour ambient lighting.
The safety package includes nine airbags, a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and hill-start and hill-hold assist functions.
In India, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line competes with the Jeep Meridian and the MG Majestor.
