Nio begins local deliveries of Firefly
CNEV Post, 2 Feb '26
Nio's compact car brand, Firefly, has commenced deliveries in Singapore, following its entry into the city-state last month.
The first batch of right-hand-drive Firefly models was delivered in Singapore on 1st February, the Nio sub-brand announced on its social media account. The number of vehicles in the initial batch was not disclosed. The right-hand-drive version of the Firefly EV was unveiled at the Singapore Motorshow 2026 on 8th January, coinciding with the start of pre-orders.
Singapore is the first market to receive the right-hand-drive Firefly EV.
Nio has partnered with local automotive retailer Wearnes Automotive, established in 1906, which represents and retails multiple premium and luxury brands in Singapore. This approach aligns with the company's strategy in other markets, relying on distributors overseas rather than a capital-intensive direct sales model.
The first local Firefly showroom opened in late January. The company plans to continue its overseas expansion this year through distributor partnerships, using Firefly as its initial brand.
Nio aims to extend its international presence to 40 countries and regions by the end of the year. The Firefly brand was launched at Nio Day 2024 on 21st December 2024, positioned to compete with Mini and Smart.
Its namesake model, the Firefly EV, was launched in China on 19th April 2025. Initially, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer intended to launch Firefly models in Europe first.
However, following the European Union's imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the strategy was revised to launch the model in China first.
Firefly deliveries have since commenced in Europe, featuring left-hand-drive models, consistent with the Chinese version.
Nio Inc reported a 96.08% year-on-year increase in deliveries in January, although performance declined 43.53% from December.
Firefly experienced a 60.38% decline in deliveries from December.
