VinFast's Ha Tinh factory represents the company's fifth facility dedicated to electric vehicle (EV) production, joining existing plants in Hai Phong, Indonesia, India, and the United States.
On 8th December, VinFast officially commenced construction of its new EV manufacturing plant in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, Ha Tinh.
This will be the company's second production facility in Vietnam.
Construction and capacity
The first phase of the Ha Tinh factory is scheduled for completion by July 2025, eight months after the ground-breaking ceremony.
During this phase, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles, with the potential for expansion to 600,000 vehicles in subsequent phases.
Initially, the factory will consist of three main production workshops: painting, body welding, and vehicle assembly. Additional supporting workshops will utilise facilities at VinFast's Hai Phong plant, with gradual expansion based on market demand.
Production focus and supply chain
The Ha Tinh plant will primarily focus on the production of two models, the VF 3 and VF 5. Key components, including chassis, motors, and electronic parts, will be supplied by the Hai Phong plant.
EV batteries will be partly sourced from a dedicated battery factory within the Vung Ang Economic Zone.
Global expansion
This new facility complements VinFast's global production network. The Hai Phong plant currently operates with a phase-one capacity of 250,000 vehicles annually, with the potential to expand to a maximum of 950,000 units per year.
VinFast's international factories in India, Indonesia, and the United States are crucial to its global expansion strategy. The facilities in India and Indonesia are also scheduled to begin operations in 2025.
