Xiaomi to launch SU7 Ultra Electric racing car prototype in Q1 2025
Xiaomi's Founder, Chairman, and CEO, Lei Jun, announced recently that the mass-produced version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, an electric racing prototype, will be launched in the first quarter of 2025.
This timeline accelerates the previously expected launch, initially set for the first half of 2025. Industry analysts interpret this move as a strategic effort by Xiaomi EV to swiftly bring the product to market and reduce production costs.
Performance and features
SU7 Ultra prototype is based on Xiaomi's SU7 all-electric platform. It achieved a top speed exceeding 350 km/h during testing at the Nürburgring track and boasts impressive acceleration figures: 0-100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 5.96 seconds.
The mass-produced SU7 Ultra will retain the prototype's high-performance chassis, tri-motor setup, and a powerful 1,548 PS (1,138 kW) output. However, to manage production costs, the mass-produced version will not include the full carbon fibre design seen in the prototype and will instead use CATL's second-generation Qilin battery.
Key components and innovations
Xiaomi EV has independently designed and developed several core components of the SU7 Ultra, including the V8s super motor, thermal management system, electric drive controller, and battery controller.
These innovations underscore Xiaomi's commitment to bringing cutting-edge technology to its electric vehicle line-up.
Introduction of novice mode
In addition to its high performance, the SU7 Ultra may feature a "novice mode" that requires drivers to gradually unlock the vehicle's full performance potential.
This mode aims to ensure safe handling and gradual familiarization with the car's capabilities, offering a controlled way for drivers to experience the car's top performance levels through a series of tests.
Market impact and strategic goals
By fast-tracking the SU7 Ultra's production timeline, Xiaomi EV aims to quickly establish its presence in the high-performance electric vehicle market.
The company's approach to integrating its own hardware and technology, along with the potential inclusion of a driver-friendly "novice mode," positions the SU7 Ultra as a significant entry in the electric racing car segment.
