Gogoro Nepal is set to launch 45 battery-swapping stations in Kathmandu around Dashain.

Nebula Energy, the official distributor of Gogoro scooters in Nepal, will be the first company to introduce this technology in the country.

Currently, two GoStations are operational in Lazimpat and Tripureshwor, with plans to expand the network across key areas of the Kathmandu Valley by Dashain.

Once the GoStation network is established, Gogoro will begin offering its electric scooters to the general public, starting with the Gogoro Pulse and Gogoro Jego models at the upcoming NADA Auto Show 2024.

The company has already commenced B2B operations with delivery services like Foodmandu and JumJum, using commercial Gogoro GX250 scooters, which will be available on a subscription model after the official launch.

Battery swapping technology allows users to replace a depleted battery with a fully charged one in seconds, eliminating the need for long charging times. This feature aims to alleviate range anxiety, save time, and provide a lifetime battery guarantee.

Gogoro's ecosystem, recognized by Guide house Insights as a leading battery-swapping platform, supports an open and interoperable system. Gogoro has been acknowledged for its innovation, ranking as the Most Innovative Company in Asia Pacific and 37th globally in Fast Company's 2024 list.

The adoption of battery-swapping technology could address the challenges faced by both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric scooters. While ICE vehicles are known for air and noise pollution and fluctuating fuel costs, electric scooters face issues like range anxiety, long charging times, and high battery replacement costs. By offering instant battery swaps similar to refuelling at petrol stations, Gogoro aims to make electric scooters a more practical alternative for Nepal's two-wheeler-dominated market.

Globally, the Gogoro Network is active in Taiwan, supporting over 600,000 riders with more than 1.4 million smart batteries in circulation and 12,500 battery-swapping stations across 2,500 locations.

In Taiwan, Gogoro holds a 90% market share in electric two-wheelers, surpassing the number of petrol stations with its GoStations.
